There is seemingly a pharmaceutical treatment for just about any and all kinds of ailments. When an individual is watching television, chances are there will be a commercial or two about a particular prescription drug that treats a particular problem with a slew of side effects. Unfortunately, many of these treatments are something that an individual is prescribed once they have been diagnosed with an ailment as opposed to taking it as a way of preventing the problem from occurring.

This is becoming a growing problem in the United States pharmaceutical industry. More emphasis is being placed towards creating remedies for existing conditions over finding out the root causes of the ailments and finding a method of prevention.

Many people might not think that the issue of finding remedies for ailments over preventing them in the first place is even a problem. However, individuals who end up on these prescription drugs, particularly at older ages, usually become dependent on them for life. Additionally, with the large amount of side effects associated with some of the treatments, there are supplemental prescriptions that are necessary simply to negate the problems that they can cause. Due to this fact, it is not uncommon for individuals, particularly elderly individuals, to be taking ten or more medications per day.

Going the route of using the billions of dollars that go into pharmaceuticals for prevention based campaigns would be a much more effective method. Making information and health programs more readily available to the public would help motivate people to change their lifestyles and reduce the risk of potential problems they might have later in life.
